LARGE FRUIT FLY, FLIGHTLESS
(Drosophila hydei)
 
These fruit flies are larger than the melanogaster, and are suitable for herptiles, inverts, aquatics, and other creatures which have outgrown mels but aren't yet large enough to take other larger prey. All three varieties offered by the OIF are winged but are flightless. 
 
The three varieties available for sale; 
DARK (Hd): the smallest of the hydei varieties offered by the OIF, these are classic dark bodied flies with red eyes hydei. This variety seems to be the fastest producing, with cultures seeing flies emerge almost a week sooner than the other two.
 
GOLDEN (Hg): midsized between the DARK and MIDNIGHT varients of the hydei fruit flies offered by the OIF, they can be recognized by their light golden coloured bodies and dark eyes. 
MIDNIGHT (Hm): this is a new variant the OIF is offering and is a giant (for a fruit fly)!  These flies are dark bodied with dark eyes. 
 
DARK [Dh -D]: commonly encountered, this is the colour phenotype most commonly found in the wild. They are dark boded with red eyes.
